I felt moved to build a website that has not only my personal Attention Deficit Disorder information, gathered through many years of coping with my own ADD and Dyslexia, but now I have gathered an abundance of current information about my son's ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Autism Ribbon

The autism ribbon is a simple way that many people help to raise the awareness of the Autism Spectrum Disorder definition. And like many of the other ribbons used for causes, it crosses in the middle and has its own unique colors. This particular ribbon is red, blue, and yellow. It has within it many puzzle pieces. The puzzle pieces represent the many pieces of Autism Spectrum that you need to put together to fully understand it. Many families wear these ribbons as pins, decals on shirts, and even display them on car bumpers.

Diagnosis

My son wasn't diagnosed clearly, until age 9, when he had to have his gall bladder removed. The gastroenterologist and the neurologist both suggested to me that he had Autism Spectrum, and that his gastrointestinal, liver, pancreas, and gall bladder problems were related to that. This was a wake up call for me!

I took my son to the Amen Clinic for a Brain Scan, and learned that they too believed that my son had a complex series of diagnoses that could best fall under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Researching Autism Spectrum

It has taken me many years to research and educate myself about Autism Spectrum, Attention Deficit Disorder, OCD, SID, Dyslexia, Mood Disorders, and how to best advocate for a child with these conditions. It is an ongoing process, which continues to require me to jump over obstacles, and to be continually educating myself through the Internet, personal interviews with parents, appointments with countless doctors, therapists and the public school education system.

My goal is to share the information and perspective I have gained throughout my journey with everyone touched by these disorders. I will include articles from doctors, and the multiple areas of support I have found helpful. My hope is that it will help you and in some way make your life and your decisions easier.
