Aspergers Stress Hormone 'Link'

The stress hormone Cortisol helps the brain respond to change. Children with Aspergers may dislike change to their routine because of their different levels of the stress hormone cortisol, a study suggests.

The hormone is believed to make the brain more alert, and more able to cope with changes in the environment.

I am very aware of the stress levels that people on the spectrum experience. It is heartbreaking to see how much anxiety any change in routine will cause them. I am very glad that there are neuro-scientific studies happening more often now, and I believe that in the near future the treatments will be readily available in a simple supplement form, rather than in prescription drug.
